Dr. Hugh Kim – Reach Recipient

Dr. Hugh Kim is one of sixteen UBC project recipients that have received new funding from Michael Smith Health Research BC through the 2023 Convening & Collaborating (C2) and Reach programs. This funding will go towards supporting the 2024 World Thrombosis Day event.

Recipient: Hugh Kim, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Medicine
Research site: UBC Vancouver
Project: Celebrating World Thrombosis Day: Raising Awareness to Save Lives

On October 13, 2023, Dr. Hugh Kim held a Cafe Scientifique with CIHR (Canadian Institutes of Health Research), “Celebrating World Thrombosis Day: Raising Awareness to Save Lives”. This day was dedicated to raising awareness and educating the public about thrombosis, how to prevent it, and how to recognize the signs of a medical emergency. A team of physicians and blood researchers hosted a panel discussion to inform the public about the prevention and management of heart attacks, strokes and other thrombosis-related conditions. A better public awareness of thrombosis will help to reduce thrombosis-related sickness and disability in our communities, and ultimately save lives.

Thank you to Dr. Hugh Kim for hosting this information session and for curating and sharing this knowledge with the CBR community.

The C2 and Reach funding programs are team-based awards aimed at mobilizing communities for research impact and building research talent for B.C.’s future. The programs support research collaborations and co-development between researchers and the people who will use the research, and also enable health researchers and professionals to develop skills and experience in knowledge translation.
