On Thursday, July 17, 14 CBR members visited the UBC Botanical Garden for a relaxing afternoon in nature.
Organized by the Health and Wellness Committee, the event was designed to bring members out of the lab, to help them connect with nature, de-stress, and have fun!
The afternoon began with a walk 20 meters above the forest floor on the Greenheart TreeWalk. CBR members got a bird’s eye view of the temperate rainforest, learn about the diverse and unique ecosystems, learn about tree identification, and the cultural significance of plants to Indigenous communities.
The second half of the tour brought the group back to ground level to explore the diverse garden collections, including the E.H. Lohbrunner Alpine Garden, the Food Garden, and the Harold & Frances Holt Physic Garden. Members had the chance to discover the rich biodiversity of the space and the stories behind many of the garden’s unique plants.
Thank you to UBC Botanical Garden for the fun and informative tour!
