Thursday July 21, 2022 | 12:00 – 1:00PM PT
The Centre for Blood Research (CBR) was pleased to hold a Career “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) Café on Thursday July 21, 2022 from 12-1 pm PT, with Dr. Stefanie Vogt, PhD, a Senior Research Scientist in Discovery at AbCellera.
She shared some insightful takeaways with our audience:
- If you love doing cutting-edge research and working with a supportive team, a career in industry may be a great fit for you!
- Don’t feel constrained by the subject matter of your degree. As long as you have the appropriate core skills and can show that you are a quick learner, many employers are willing to provide on-the-job technical training.
- Connections that you’ve made through your graduate studies, are great resources when you’re thinking about your next career steps.
Stefanie is a Senior Research Scientist at AbCellera, a company that searches, decodes and analyzes natural immune systems to identify potential antibody therapeutics. She joined AbCellera in 2019 and focuses on working with pharma and biotech partners to advance their antibody discovery projects. Stefanie completed her PhD studies in Microbiology & Biotechnology at the University of Alberta in 2013. She subsequently joined Brett Finlay’s lab in the Michael Smith Laboratories at UBC where she investigated bacterial gene expression and population dynamics during host infection as a postdoctoral fellow.
